Parallel Lives, Part 1 is the twenty-ninth issue of IDW Publishing's 2011 ongoing series of Star Trek comics. The issue is the first part of a two-part story arc by writer Mike Johnson, releasing in January 2014. Issue art was by Yasmin Liang, with Roberto Orci credited as creative consultant.
Summary
- Captain's log, stardate 2261.274
- The Enterprise is completing its general survey of the previously unexplored world of Kassen V. It's a class M pre-industrial planet with two dominant species. One significantly more dominant than the other.
In a parallel universe where everyone is of the opposite sex, Jane Kirk, captain of the USS Enterprise, stops the oppression of a people. The crew argues about the use of the transporter. Meanwhile, a black hole is discovered and Starfleet Command has assigned the Enterprise. As the crew talks with each other, Jane Kirk gets a medical examination. They find the anomaly and end up inside it. On the other side, they detect another Starfleet ship. They soon realize they are in a parallel universe, the one that is the subject of most of the issues in this comic book.
