"Passage to Moauv" was the first of 11 TOS stories produced by Peter Pan Records. It was initially released in 1975 as an audio production along with two other stories. It was subsequently packaged by itself accompanied by a 20-page comic book. This was the first of seven stories set during Captain James T. Kirk’s first five-year mission aboard the USS Enterprise and the first of six with an associated comic book.

In this story set in 2268, the USS Enterprise ferried a telepathic pet home.

Summary[]

As a matter of delicate diplomacy, the starship USS Enterprise was reassigned for two weeks to ferry pet waul Ewass from Centaurus Base to his owner on Moauv, the Moauvian ambassador. The little animal was spooked in its little cage, and Dr. Leonard McCoy took it off the bridge to keep it in sickbay with their laboratory animals. En route, however, he and Prentiss accidentally knocked a corridor wall, terrifying Ewass, and they dropped its cage. The latch broke, and the waul ran off. It shredded Prentiss's left arm when he reached for it, requiring bandages and a splint. He showed Spock his arm, suggesting he be very careful, as crewmen began to search with nets.

Oddly, reports of fighting were sent to the bridge. Gebson attacked his fellow security guard out of fear and panic. Spock soon realized that the animal was telepathic, and was projecting primal panic and fear to anyone nearby that was trying to capture it. Captain James T. Kirk asked Ambassador Oavid for advice, wondering if perhaps this was some sort of prearranged test. Oavid advised tranquilizing the pet, but McCoy was unfamiliar with Moauvian pharmaceuticals.

The emergency ended when the Caitian Lieutenant M'Ress awoke in her quarters, heard Kirk and Spock fighting in the corridor, saw the frightened waul, and was able to calm the animal and pick it up. Oavid was relieved to hear that the crisis was resolved, seeing benefits of Starfleet having a diverse crew. Off-handedly, he mentioned that Ewass was pregnant and due to deliver six to ten babies before the ship arrived at Moauv.
