Paul Porter was a male human who served as an officer of the Federation Starfleet in the mid-24th century.
Biography[]
As of 2372, he held the rank of lieutenant, and the position of deputy chief engineer on the newly launched USS Enterprise-E under Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge.
That year, he and Lieutenant Reginald Barclay assisted Lieutenant Padraig Daniels and his team from Division of Planetary Operations in their investigation of a bombing on Starbase 375. (TNG - Slings and Arrows eBook: The Oppressor's Wrong)
Later that year, when the Enterprise arrived at Starbase 19 for a security summit, Porter took the ship's warp core offline for repairs based on a comment from La Forge from a month earlier. However he and the engineering staff received a serious dressing down from an emotionally distraught La Forge, but was ultimately saved by the intervention of Lieutenant commander Data. In early-2373, he performed the role of Captain Bluntschli in the play Arms and the Man directed by Doctor Beverly Crusher. The following day, he and Lieutenant Sean Hawk managed to maximize engine power while rushing to the Badlands to rescue Captains Jean-Luc Picard and Benjamin Sisko from a trap set by rogue members of the Klingon High Council. Later, when the Enterprise returned Deep Space 9, he assisted Chief Miles O'Brien in fine tuning the USS Defiant. (TNG - Slings and Arrows eBook: Enterprises of Great Pitch and Moment)
Following the Enterprise's pursuit of a Borg vessel to the year 2063, La Forge left Porter in charge of engineering when he beamed down to Earth with an away team. While investigating shipboard problems in one of the ship's jeffries tubes, Porter was assimilated by a member of a Borg boarding party. After his assimilation, Porter remained in engineering with other Borg drones, Porter performed several tasks, including protecting the Borg Queen and aiding in the attempted assimilation of both Data and Jean-Luc Picard. Porter later died with the rest of the Borg drones after the Borg Queen was killed by Lieutenant commander Data. (TNG movie: First Contact)
His body, along with the bodies of all the other assimilated Enterprise crew members were turned over to the Borg Sciences unit for study and eventual dismemberment so that they could be returned to their families. (TNG - Section 31 novel: Rogue)
