Pellucidar was a fictional, populated subsurface Earth location created by science fiction author Edgar Rice Burroughs.

History and specifics[]

It was an upside-down inner world hidden to Earth's surface dwellers, warmed and lit by internal starlight.

In 2269, when Dr. Leonard McCoy encountered Lyra, he wanted to name it Pellucidar, as the Dyson sphere's inner surface strongly reminded him of Burroughs' locale. (TOS novel: The Starless World)

In 2285, Rear Admiral James T. Kirk described the cave on Regula modified by Project Genesis as Pellucidar. Lieutenant Commander Pavel Chekov recalled this during his official debriefing of the Genesis incident with Commodore Ridley Normand. (TOS reference: Star Trek II Biographies)

Appendices[]

Background[]

Burroughs published seven books in his Pellucidar novel series between 1914 and 1963.
