Pemmican pie was a type of fruity minced meat pie served on Amerind in the 23rd century.

History and specifics[]

The Amerind natives' common version of the pie was made with berries and fruits collected by hunting parties during the summer, with fat sourced from lean game meat. The meat itself was pounded to tiny bits, mixed with the fruits into hide pouches, then hot fat poured inside. It was an outdoor treat that would keep for months, and during harsh winters the meat could be boiled to make a stew. But as a treat, it was made into pies.

In the year 2268, Miramanee served James T. Kirk pemmican pies during their time together, his favorite of her dishes. Miramanee topped her pies with a cream made from butter and honey.

Nurse Christine Chapel adapted the dish for the USS Enterprise's food processors. Her adaptation was formulated using ground beef, oranges, apples, raisins, currants, apple cider, several spices, molasses, sugar, and pastry. The result was similar to a mincemeat pie. In 2285, when Regula I space station personnel prepared to hide themselves and the Genesis Device on Regula, Carol Marcus considered bringing pemmican along for sustenance, because it was a high-calorie survival food and they might be isolated for a long time. (TOS novelization: The Wrath of Khan)
