A personnel file is a form of communications record-keeping usually stored in a computer, but also capable of being recorded in hardcopy, detailing the pertinent information about an individual's attributes and history serving in a group or organization. This can also be known as a dossier or service jacket.
History and specificsEdit
After the Federation-Klingon War of 2256-2257, the Federation Starfleet instituted new rules about verifying personnel information before individuals could assume senior staff positions aboard starships and other posts. This came following a number of highly-classified infiltrations by Klingon agents and mirror universe counterparts. To this end, the personnel record of incoming Captain Christopher Pike had to be read into the ship's computer with the bridge crew as witnesses. Ensign Sylvia Tilly ran the identification routine, and was teased by Pike when she had to move his pinky finger on the palm scanner. Tilly accidentally posted Pike's personnel file on the main viewscreen, but Pike was unshaken by the breach of protocol, and invited the staff to read his info to build an understanding of his character.
