Background[edit | edit source]

Some vessels in the game are shown to be commanded normally by lieutenant commanders and commanders, meaning that this character might sometimes be portrayed at those ranks, even though a full post captain's rank insignia is shown here for the purposes of this wiki.

No history or fate is established for this character in licensed Star Trek, in which the name was randomly assigned by the SFC game software. This character's name was derived from the source material that the Starfleet Command game series was based on, the Star Fleet Battles RPG, where Kosnett is a recurring character who rises to high rank in Starfleet. In turn, the Star Fleet Battles creators took the name from a real-world American wargame designer active in the 1970s and 1980s, Philip S. Kosnett, later a career foreign service officer who rose to the position of ambassador. The name recurred again in unlicensed sources as part of the fan fiction Starship Exeter series.

Since the NPC (non-player character) lists used for the game software were re-used for the 24th century game Starfleet Command III, there is also a 24th century character bearing the same name. There is a possibility it is the same person, who somehow either aged gracefully or was spared from aging by stasis or time travel.
