For other uses, see Phoebe.

Phoebe is a moon of the planet Saturn, located in Federation space in the Sol star system in sector 001 of the galaxy's Alpha Quadrant.

History and specifics[]

It was also known as Sol VIi. (Last Unicorn RPG module: Starfleet Academy)

It had a rugged, icy surface, with cliffs and chasms, as well as a thin atmosphere and light gravity.

In 2357, senior cadet William T. Riker accepted a bet from Paul Rice. They borrowed two type-6 shuttlecraft from the Starfleet Academy Flight Range for an unauthorized race to Phoebe and back. Unaware that his shuttle had been under repair, Rice went closer to Phoebe than necessary in order to slingshot around it and beat Riker, but Rice got caught in an ion storm and lost control of the shuttle. Riker called for assistance, but the ion storm prevented a transporter rescue from that distance. Fearing Rice would die if he had to wait for a rescue team, Riker piloted his shuttle to within a kilometer of the surface, lowered his deflector shields within the ion storm, and was able to beam Rice aboard without crashing.

Superintendent Vyrek reprimanded them both. Admiral Owen Paris told them they'd both been stupid and should have died, but commended their bravery and raised their grades in his survival class. (TLE novel: Deny Thy Father)
