The Phoenix was an antimatter tanker in service during the 24th century. In 2370, it was hijacked by Bajoran terrorists and taken to the planet Eco in the Gamma Quadrant. Commander Benjamin Sisko, Odo and Lieutenant Jadzia Dax managed to follow the ship in the runabout USS Mekong. After using some subterfuge, Dax and Odo were able to retake the ship and head for the wormhole. While making their way to the wormhole, the Phoenix assisted Sisko in fighting off a Ferengi Marauder. When the tanker came under attack by Cardassian fighters, Dax managed to reconfigure an antimatter pod into a depth charge, ultimately destroying the fighters. When the Phoenix returned to the Alpha Quadrant it was destroyed by two Klingon Birds of Prey. However, the remaining antimatter pods, Odo, Jadzia, and two prisoners had been transferred to the Mekong. (DS9 novel: Antimatter)
