Memory Beta, non-canon Star Trek Wiki

A photon bomb was a type of explosive technology, a bomb device that was available as a weapon in and around the Federation in the galaxy's Alpha and Beta Quadrants in the 23rd century. The photon bomb shares some qualities of photonic aspect with the photon torpedo.

History and specifications[]

In the 2260s decade, Romulan Empire battlecruisers were oufitted to fire photon bombs. The Starfleet starship USS Enterprise weathered a salvo of these before taking refuge in an energy-gas cloud after an ambush on a survey mission. (TAS - Log 6 novelization: The Practical Joker)

When the majority of the ambassadorial members of the Federation Diplomatic Corps were being ferried to Détente Station One in the Romulan Neutral Zone in the year 2269, Scotty voiced concern that a saboteur with a single clutch of photon bombs on the space station would mean the end of Federation affairs. Spock corrected him that, while the diplomats would be lost, the councillors of the Federation Council would remain and continue the Federation government. (TOS novel: Death's Angel)
