The Phylosians were a sentient plant species native to the planet Phylos II. They had tentacles that were damp, green and leaf-like. The Phylosians are members of the Federation. (TAS episode: "The Infinite Vulcan", TAS episode: "The Time Trap" , ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation)
- The novelization of the episode (shown in Log Two) characterized the species as having no similarities to that of Humans or Vulcans, except in size.
Phylosians reproduced by spores and germinated from out of the ground. (TAS - Log Two novelization: The Infinite Vulcan)
History[]
As a people, they intended on enforcing peace on the galaxy. These plans were delayed by the arrival of a Human Augment scientist named Stavos Keniclius in the 21st century. The bacteria strain he brought, staphylococcus, nearly wiped out the Phylosians. He stayed on the planet to assist them. (TAS episode & Log Two novelization: The Infinite Vulcan)
With the help of Keniclius' fifth clone, Stavos Keniclius 5, they were going to try again in the 23rd century, but were dissuaded by Spock 2, the giant Spock clone. Eventually Phylocite was developed as a cure to their sterility. (TAS episode & Log Two novelization: The Infinite Vulcan, TNG - A Time to... novel: A Time to Harvest)
Phylosians were among the spacefaring races who became trapped in Elysia, inside the Delta Triangle of space. A Phylosian had a seat on the Elysian Council. (TAS episode: "The Time Trap")
In 2269, Phylosian DNA was processed in a genetic engineering facility on Gobi III, yielding at least one infant. It was discovered in Avatar's nursery, incubated and cared for by a series of robot nannies. (TOS - Year Four comic: "Issue 6")
In the late 2270s, a Phylosian was one of six non-Vulcans serving aboard the USS Sakar, along with a Horta, a Coridan, two Andorians and Commander Tonia Barrows. (TOS - Crucible novel: Provenance of Shadows)
In 2293, a Phylosian sexually propositioned James T. Kirk in the Flag and Grog. The bar served Phylosian cognac, which had became popular by the late 23rd century. (TOS novel: The Fearful Summons)
Mot considered Phylosian space as a possible (and incorrect) destination for Jean-Luc Picard and Data, who Mot gave Romulan hairpieces to in 2368. Mot ruled out the Phylosians, describing them as "vanquished". (TNG novelization: Unification)
In 2407, the Phylosians were struck by a mysterious plague of unknown origins. Starfleet promptly sent medical teams, who found the task of finding a cure to be difficult due to the Phylosians' strange physiology. (STO novel: The Needs of the Many)
