A pig, hog, or swine (referred to as porcine in origin) was a mammalian animal lifeform native to the planet Earth. Various Human civilizations bred and raised pigs for food, as meats, such as bologna or bacon. (TOS episode: "The City on the Edge of Forever", TNG episode: "Up the Long Ladder")

History and specifics[]

Alhamisi and M'Umbha Uhura raised pigs on their farm in Kitui Province, Kenya. In 2270, their daughter Nyota Uhura noted in her letter to them that hog prices were fairly high, and therefore they should be able to do good business that year. (TAS novelization: The Slaver Weapon)

The humanoid race of Tellarites, as well as the animal species of targs are both noted as resembling Earth's species of swine. (ST website: StarTrek.com)
