The city was founded on November 25th, 1758 by General John Forbes when the British captured Fort Duquesne during the [[French and Indian War]] ([[Seven Years' War]]). Between the 1850s and the 1980s, Pittsburgh became a major industrial center. The largest manufactured material in the city was [[steel]].
