Pizza is a type of human food. Among the most basic varieties is a simple cheese pizza.

History and specifics[]

Pizza was generally a flat, oven-baked bread, usually round in shape, with a sauce, cheese, and other toppings. In the 20th and 21st centuries, a standard pizza was made with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese, with a plethora of toppings optionally placed on top, including meat, fruit and/or vegetables. Pizza originated in the European nation-state of Italy, but later became popular throughout Europe and in the United States.

When Admiral James T. Kirk and his crew traveled back to 1986 Earth, Kirk and Doctor Gillian Taylor went to North Bay Pizza in San Francisco, where they were served by a waiter named Jason. Over dinner, Taylor told Kirk that the humpback whales George and Gracie were going to be removed the next day. They left the restaurant, taking the sausage, mushroom and onion pizza they ordered with them. (TOS movie, novelization & comic adaptation: The Voyage Home; TOS - Strange New Worlds VI short story: "Whales Weep Not")

In 1989, Roberta Lincoln was eating pineapple pizza before Khan Noonien Singh broke into her office. (TOS novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 1)

A pizzeria called Fiorello's was a favorite restaurant of Hoshi Sato. Tarquin used Sato's memories of the food in attempt to romance her in 2153. (ST website: StarTrek.com; ENT episode: "Exile")

While telling a story in The Captain's Table, Christopher Pike ordered a pizza and shared it with Captains Hompaq and Nowan, neither of whom had tried it before. (TOS - The Captain's Table novel: Where Sea Meets Sky)

Benjamin Sisko was impressed that the Captain's Table served Chicago-style pepperoni pizza. (DS9 - The Captain's Table novel: The Mist)

While suffering from accelerated evolution brought about by a transwarp flight, Tom Paris stated that he would've loved to have a slice of "deep-dish" pepperoni pizza, with Kavarian olives. (VOY episode: "Threshold")
