Planetoid is the designation for a small planet-like body typically in orbit of a star.
Examples of planetoids include Darien 224 and Anomaly. (EV comic: "Cloak and Dagger"; TOS novel: Planet of Judgment)
In the 23rd century the Gorn maintained an training outpost on a hostile * jungled planetoid, which in 2282 the shuttlecraft Kepler crash-landed on. (TOS comic: "Alien Spotlight: The Gorn")
- Under contemporary astronomical terminology some planetoids might be designated dwarf planets. However that term was only coined in 2006 and has only had limited use in licensed Star Trek products to date, while the term planetoid has both common usage in past products and continues to be used in contemporary publications.
