A friendly reminder regarding spoilers! At present the expanded Trek universe is in a period of major upheaval with the continuations of Discovery and Prodigy, the advent of new eras in gaming with the Star Trek Adventures RPG, Star Trek: Infinite and Star Trek Online, as well as other post-57th Anniversary publications such as the ongoing IDW Star Trek comic and spin-off Star Trek: Defiant. Therefore, please be courteous to other users who may not be aware of current developments by using the {{spoiler}}, {{spoilers}} OR {{majorspoiler}} tags when adding new information from sources less than six months old (even if it is minor info). Planetoid is the designation for a small planet-like body in orbit of a star.

Examples of planetoids include Darien 224 and Anomaly. (EV comic: "Cloak and Dagger"; [citation needed])

In the 23rd century the Gorn maintained an training outpost on a hostile * jungled planetoid, which in 2282 the shuttlecraft Kepler crash-landed on. (TOS comic: "Alien Spotlight: The Gorn")

Under contemporary astronomical terminology some planetoids might be designated dwarf planets. However that term was only coined in 2006 and has only had limited use in licensed Star Trek products to date, while the term planetoid has both common usage in past products and continues to be used in contemporary publications.
