Plants are a group of (usually) non-sentient organisms that also include trees, flowers and many other varieties seen across the galaxy. On many Class M planets, including Earth, plants contain chlorophyll which gives the plants stems and leaves a green color.
The study of plants is referred to as botany, and botanists have discovered differing varieties of plants (or parts of plants) that are edible, inedible, or poisonous. Among the edible parts of plants are herbs, vegetables, fruits, and seeds.
