Plasma dual heavy cannons were a weapon technology, a directed energy weapons emitter installed on starships. Dual heavy cannons fired two projectiles of plasma energy per second and twice per cycle at a target, dealing more damage than a plasma beam arrays and plasma dual cannons. As a dual cannon, it had a 45° firing arc and fired a total of four shots before recharging. Compared to other energy weapon types, plasma space particle weapons had a chance of decreasing a target's resistance against all types of damage. Plasma cannons usually fired cyan pulses. In the 25th century, plasma dual heavy cannons fired cyan-colored bolts and were available with different ratings of advancement, ranging from mark I to mark XV, plus unrated variants. These cannons could be modified by personnel to improve accuracy, critical severity, critical chance and damage output. Aboard starships, plasma dual cannons could be slotted in fore weapon emplacements only. The variant plasma turret could be placed in either fore or aft weapon slot, however. As a dual heavy cannon type, this weapon could only be equipped on starship categorized by the Khitomer Alliance as battlecruiser, carrier, destroyer, dreadnought cruiser, escort, strike wing escort, fighter, light cruiser, multi-mission science vessel, raider, raptor and warbird.
