The plasma rifle is a type of plasma weapon in a rifle form. It fires magnetically charged superheated plasma at long ranges. It has been put into use by many different races and organizations.

Starfleet Intelligence classified the plasma rifle as an assassin's weapon. The SI version of this weapon in the 23rd century is similar in size to a phaser rifle and is equipped with an electronic sighting system. In the year 2268 the Nausicaan bounty hunter Kajek used a scope-enhanced plasma rifle while tracking down targets. He kept it in a sheath on his back.
