Playstation is a brand of video game consoles produced by Sony.
The Playstation first became available in 1994, with succesive generations released in subsequent years. The latest home console, the Playstation 5 (PS5), was released in 2020. Two hand-held consoles have also been released, the Playstation Portable (PSP) in 2004, followed by the PS Vita in 2011.
Star Trek games have been released for all five home consoles as well as the PSP, with several also featuring backwards compatibility allowing them to play games released for previous console generations. Since the launch of the PS5, most have also been made available in both PS4 and PS5 editions. In addition both "Stern Pinball Arcade", and "Pinball FX" have released playable "Star Trek" themed pinball machines as optional downloadable content.
Several console generations have also had the ability to play DVD (PS2 onwards), Blu Ray (PS3 onwards) and 4K UHD Blu Ray (PS5) discs, and the feature film Star Trek Nemesis was also released on UMD (Universal Media Disc), a format used solely by the PSP.
