A sort of mad scientist, Doc Pleasance operated a fictional biology lab similar to the one in Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein, one with technology, a sample exposed brain, and an examination table containing "the creature". He accomplished his tasks with the aid of Ubalda and Mr. Blargle.
A depiction of Pleasance, his lab, and his assistants appeared on a comic book page advertising the characters for sale as action figures in a play set, each sold separately. Pleasance was $1.99 plus $2 shipping; allow 6 weeks for delivery.
In the year 2269, Fontana created Pleasance and the others after discovering he was the writer/artist in a comic book alternate reality. Captain James T. Kirk, Commander Spock, Shiboline M'Ress, and Nyota Uhura drifted weightlessly across the enormous illustration, unsure what to do. (TAS comic: "The Scheimer Barrier")
