pocket was a container sewn into an item of clothing to allow the wearer to carry small items without using their hands or a separate bag. 

In 2267, Montgomery Scott, who had come to Organia without bringing any tools or spare parts, said that he often cursed the designer who put no pockets in Starfleet uniforms. (TOS novel: Spock Must Die!)

In 2364, Tasha Yar's dress uniform had trouser pockets under the jacket-skirt large enough to hold a comb or a credit chit. (TNG novel: Survivors)

Tom Paris claimed that his pocket was picked on Earth while he was a cadet in the 2360s. (VOY episode: "The Cloud")

In 2369, Starfleet safety regulations banned pockets on uniforms. (TNG novel: Debtor's Planet)
