Erin Esurance encounters a large Drakoulias
The Drakoulias, sometimes referred to as a "Polarilla", was a carnivorous animal species native to the planet Delta Vega. Drakoulias resembled a cross between a polar bear and a gorilla, they had a generally ape-like body, cover in brown fur with grey/blue areas, including a mane. They also had large protruding tusk-like teeth. The average Drakoulias was a little taller than an average humanoid, but they were observed to have grown significantly larger; more than twice the height, and several times the bulk, of a humanoid. In 2258, when James T. Kirk was marooned on Delta Vega he encountered a Drakoulias while trekking through the icy wastelands. The Drakoulias gave chase and Kirk thought he would most likely be killed by it until a hengrauggi attacked the pursuing animal. (TOS movie & novelization: Star Trek)
In 2265, polarillas and snow slugs had overrun the Starfleet outpost on Delta Vega. Special agent Erin Esurance was sent by Starfleet Command to investigate when contact was lost with the outpost. Upon beaming down to the planet Esurance had to battle her way past numerous polarillas to make it into the base, and then past more of them within the base. On her way through a network of ice caves leading into the base she encountered one particularly large polarilla, which used its bulk to create concussive force waves to force Esurance back. As the polarilla blocked her route Esurance was forced to use her phaser to disable it. (TOS video game: Delta Vega: Meltdown on the Ice Planet)
