Polaron beam array

A starship polaron beam array in 2409.

A polaron beam array was a weapon technology, a directed energy weapons emitter installed on starships and spaceborne-installations like starbases and other space stations. Such a bank fired a pair of polaron energy beam at a target, dealing an average amount of damage. As a beam array, it had a 250° firing arc. Compared to other energy weapon types, polaron space weapons had a chance of lowering all of a target's power levels and of causing a subsystem power drain. Polaron beam banks usually fired purple beams. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

History and specifics[]

In the 2370s decade of the 24th century, Jem'Hadar ships of the Dominion fired phased polaron beams. Initially, these weapons bypassed Starfleet deflector shields entirely. (DS9 episode: "The Jem'Hadar")

Polaron weapons were available to Alpha Quadrant powers by the 25th century. Polaron weapons were standard aboard the Dominion's Jem'Hadar soldiers and ships. In the 2400s and 2410s decades, polarons fired purple-colored beams and were available with different ratings of advancement, ranging from mark I to mark XV, plus unrated variants. These beam arrays could be modified by personnel to improve accuracy, critical severity, critical chance and damage output. Aboard starships, polaron beam arrays could be slotted in fore and emplacements. The variant polaron dual beam bank could be placed in a forward weapon slot only, however. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

In 2409, the Dominion also used phased polaron beam arrays, which were acquired by the Romulan Republic and its allies. (STO - New Romulus mission: "Explore the Flotilla")

The Dominion also developed dedicated Dominion polaron beam arrays and Dominion polaron dual cannons. (STO - Lost Dominion mission: "Boldly They Rode")

Dyson Joint Command, an international task force headed by the Romulan Republic that controlled the Solanae Dyson Sphere, issued protonic polaron beam array to its members to combat the Voth. (STO - Task Force Operation mission: "Storming the Spire")

Vaadwaur polaron emitter arrays were standard weapons aboard starships of the resurgent Vaadwaur Supremacy during their war of conquest in the Delta Quadrant in the year 2410. (STO - Delta Quadrant mission: "Revelations")

Working with the Borg Cooperative, the Delta Alliance developed thoron infused polaron beam arrays to combat the Vaadwaur and the Borg Collective. (STO - Task Force Operation mission: "Borg Disconnected")

In the 32nd century, the Breen Imperium used Breen Imperium polaron weapons, which fired yellow-colored beams. A pair of Breen Imperium polaron beam arrays were standard issue for Keth Sarr-class intel couriers in the 3190s. In 2411, this class and its Imperial Breen weaponry were acquired by the Lobi Crystal Consortium and the Khitomer Alliance. (STO website: Unparalleled: The Partners in Crime Lockbox)
