Memory Beta, non-canon Star Trek Wiki

A pony is an animal lifeform, a type of horse that grows to a smaller size compared to other members of its species.

Specifics[]

Because of their smaller stature, ponies on Earth were specifically domesticated for utilization carrying goods in small spaces and training diminutive riders, such as children. Human children typically enjoy time spent with ponies. Learning to ride on a pony is considered a privilege.

Molly O'Brien had a favorite pony holoprogram that included a hologram riding instructor. Keiko O'Brien would use the program as a treat for her daughter, even though the use of the holosuites necessitated bringing Molly past the unsavory patrons of Quark's Bar. One occasion where Molly used the program was as a distraction during a catastrophic plasma storm. (DS9 novel: The Tempest)
