Pranolol was a type of anti-anxiety drug available to the Federation in the 24th century.

History and specifics[]

Pranolol inhibited the flow of monoamine oxidase in synaptic pathways.

In 2371, because it had a gentler effect, reserpine was selected over pranolol to treat damaged bioneural gel packs aboard USS Voyager in an attempt to stop systems failures. (VOY novel: Violations)

Developed in the 1960s, pranolol, a.k.a propranolol, is a real-world beta blocker medicine used to treat heart disease and hypertension.
