Pretzels are an Earth food, a twisted-shaped piece of cooked bread-like dough usually served covered in salt. Smaller pretzels usually have a hard consistency similar to a cracker, while large pretzels tend to have a softer bread texture. Soft pretzels were listed by Tom Paris as one of the many historical things he loved about Earth's 20th century. (ST reference: Star Trek Cookbook)

The 602 Club often had bowls of pretzels sitting on the bar. (ENT episode: "First Flight")

Phlox, Malcolm Reed, and Travis Mayweather once visited a bar that served pretzels. After Phlox puffed up his face to frighten a xenophobic Human there, he sat down and nonchalantly ate a pretzel. (ENT episode: "Home")

Pretzels are often eaten while humans engage in recreational activities. When James T. Kirk reflected upon his free time during his 2260s five-year mission aboard the USS Enterprise, he realized he hadn't spent much time in common activites like holographic gaming, bowling and the like, which he referred to as being taken up by the starship's "beer-and-pretzel crowd". (TOS novel: Crossroad)
