Priors was a star with an associated star system, located in the Celes sector in the Regulus sector block of the galaxy's Beta Quadrant. The system consisted a type G yellow star and five planets. Priors 5d was a moon of the fifth planet, Priors V. (STO - Age of Discovery mission: "The Plausibility of the Possible")
History and specifics[]
Weeks after the start of the Federation-Klingon War of 2256-2257 in May 2256, the Priors system was conquered by the Klingon Empire. The Klingons installed ground-to-space weapon launchers on the surface of Priors World. Overseen by Captain Gabriel Lorca and security chief Amna Patel, the USS Buran led the Starfleet effort to liberate Priors World. The military engagement was dubbed Operation Riposte. Starfleet recaptured the Zenith class outposts and defeated the Klingon ships in the system while troop transporters carried troops to Priors World. The Buran disabled Akaar's dreadnought and captured the high-ranking Klingon military leader Aakar, son of Aakam, member of House Mo'Kai. (STO - Mirror of Discovery mission: "Operation Riposte")
The Buran and other ships remained in the system. Another vessel, commanded by the late Captain Anton Schaefer's former protégé, rendezvoused carried supplies to the USS Shinano and USS Cicada before meeting the Buran in Priors World orbit. The ships came under attack from the Klingons but Captain Lorca and first officer Commander Ellen Landry repelled the intruders on the Buran and recaptured Aakar. For security reasons, the Class C shuttlecraft USS Caravan was taken by Landry to transfer Aakar to the high-security prison Facility 2047 in the Mandel system. Unfortunately, Aakar was liberated by Matriarch J'Ula of House Mo'Kai at Facility 2047. (STO - Age of Discovery mission: "The Plausibility of the Possible")
During the return to Priors World, the Klingons attacked the Starfleet contingent there once more, using an ion storm as cover, and the Buran was destroyed. (STO - Age of Discovery mission: "The Impossibility of Reason")
Due to the ion storm interfering with a transporter, Captain Lorca was replaced by his mirror universe counterpart, Gabriel Lorca (mirror) of the ISS Buran. (DSC episode: "What's Past Is Prologue")
The Caravan recovered Buran escape pods, including the replacement Lorca, without realising the exchange had taken place. A M'Chla-class bird of prey targeted the Caravan and fired to disable. The shuttle was damaged and crashed on Priors 5d, moon of Priors V. Survivors included Captain Lorca, Commander Landry, chief engineer James Kerwin, and security officer Th'Pev.
They made camp in a cave in a region with fumaroles. On the third day, Aakar led teams to the surface. Landry and Lorca survived and were rescued by a Starfleet shuttle. (STO - Age of Discovery mission: "The Impossibility of Reason")
In 2387, the location of Priors in the Beta Quadrant was marked in an artistically rendered map of the Federation published by Starfleet in that year. (ST reference: Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library)
The system also appeared on a map in Fleet Admiral Kirsten Clancy's office at Starfleet Command on Earth in 2399. (PIC episode: "Maps and Legends")
In 2410, Starfleet Intelligence commissioned holographic re-enactment training scenarios about the 2256 events surrounding Priors. These were shared with commanding officers of the Khitomer Alliance to prepare for combat with J'Ula and House Mo'Kai, who had been time-displaced to the 25th century. (STO - Mirror of Discovery missions: "Operation Riposte", "The Plausibility of the Possible", "The Impossibility of Reason")
Mirror universe[]
In the mirror universe, Gabriel Lorca of the ISS Buran visited Priors World in 2256 to gain allies in his rebellion against the Emperor of the Terran Empire. During the beam-up, he was transposed with his primary universe counterpart. In orbit, the Terran Empire's flagship ISS Charon destroyed the Buran. (DSC episode: "What's Past Is Prologue")
