Promellians were a humanoid civilization native to somewhere in the galaxy's Alpha Quadrant. (ST reference: Star Charts) At their height, the Promellians were warp-capable, technologically advanced space-farers. By the 24th century, the Promellians were extinct, the result of a decline begun a thousand years prior. (TNG episode: "Booby Trap")

History[]

A key moment in Promellian history was their first contact with the Menthar species. A Promellian ship unknowingly intruded into a star system considered sacred by the Menthar, and came under attack by Menthar forces. The Promellian ship was destroyed, though not before destroying two of its attackers. Both sides declared war soon afterwards. (TLE novel: The Buried Age)

To end the war, Promellian and Menthar diplomats met at the neutral site Babel, far enough from both their territories to not be contested. Unfortunately, an accord could not be achieved as all surviving Promellians and Menthars were called to the final battle. (ENT - Rise of the Federation novel: Tower of Babel)

The war between the Promellians and the Menthar resulted in the mutual extinction of both races. The final battle was fought in the remains of the planet Orelious IX, in the late 14th century. (TNG episode: "Booby Trap")

Wars among species like the Promellians, Kalandans and Senchorig were reasons for the First Federation to continue hiding beyond the time the Dassik nation left the galactic stage. (TOS novel: The Face of the Unknown)

Legacy[]

A lookalike species, potential offshoots, was Pardshay's species. They were widely dispersed in local space. (DS9 episode: "Family Business", ENT episode: "Broken Bow")

In 2163, Admiral Jonathan Archer explained the origin of the Babel Conferences to a Zami representative, including its origin with the Promellians and Menthar. (ENT - Rise of the Federation novel: Tower of Babel)

In 2269, Triumvir of the First Federation Nisu explained to Captain James T. Kirk that wars like the conflict involving the Promellians, kept the First Federation from revealing itself. (TOS novel: The Face of the Unknown)

In his childhood, the Human Jean-Luc Picard built model starships of the Promellian battlecruiser. In 2366, he was captain of the USS Enterprise during the discovery of the Cleponji at Orelious IX. Because the wreck had been booby-trapped by the Menthar with aceton assimilators, Picard had to destroy the Cleponji. (TNG episode: "Booby Trap")

In the aftermath, the Klingon Empire employed Cleponji-type transport ships. (DS9 episode: "Sons of Mogh")
