History and specifics

In 2372, a Changeling infiltrator aboard the USS Enterprise-E assumed the form of a Pyrithian bat to escape after conducting negotiations with Jean-Luc Picard. (TNG eBook: A Sea of Troubles)

At Avendawn on Argelius II, there were sculptures of Pyrithian bats. Jadzia Dax hid behind some of these sculptures while tailing Nemi Prit in the year 2372. (DS9 novel: Revenant)
