The Q'Maire-class was a Talarian starship type, a warship class in Talarian Republic service in the 24th century.[1] From the 2360s decade onwards, this class was available in any buyer, in varying configurations.[2] (TNG episode: "Suddenly Human", ST - Adventures RPG module: Alpha Quadrant Sourcebook)
History and specifications[]
Development[]
The Q'Maire class was designed by the ship design bureaus to bolster the Talarian Republic military following contact with the technologically advanced Cardassian Union and United Federation of Planets.
By 2367, this class represented the state of the art of Talarian engineering but its offensive capabilities were outmatched by Cardassian and Starfleet starhips. The ship's hull was wedge-shaped. Hull panels were intentionally undifferentiated, to allow for easy maintenance and applying these panels anywhere on the exterior.
Large dual-purpose solar/cooling panels were attached on port and starboard. Their primary purpose was to cool the fission impulse reactors. In the case of damage to the power generation systems, the panels could be used as solar collectors within a range of 1 AU of a main-sequence star. (Adventures RPG module: Alpha Quadrant Sourcebook)
Armament[]
Offensive and defensive systems were primitive compared with contemporary Starfleet. Primary weapons were neutron beams and X-ray lasers. A pair of merculite missile launcher were mounted at the fore and dealt kinetic damage. The launchers could also fire fusion pumped X-ray lasers. The Q'Maire class was equipped with a tractor beam. (Adventures RPG module: Alpha Quadrant Sourcebook)
Propulsion[]
Propulsion was provided by a pair of separate power plants. A secondary multi-stage fission/fusion core propelled the ship to sublight speeds. Paired with a matter/anti-matter core, the vessel was capable of faster than light travel.
In case the primary power supply failed, the warp plasma from the secondary care provided sufficient power to maintain a speed of warp factor 1.6. (Adventures RPG module: Alpha Quadrant Sourcebook)
Economics[]
The ship's main selling point was the ease of maintenance, because the Republic employed slave races uplifted technologically from worlds with a cultural index equivalent to 20th century Earth. The Republic realised trade opportunities with independent worlds, who benefitted from buying fleets of ready-made vessels to defend against pirate raiders and interstellar governments.
By 2374, furthest deployment after sale has seen Q'Maire-class ships used by Ferengi Alliance merchants and by merchant convoys docking with Deep Space 3. (Adventures RPG module: Alpha Quadrant Sourcebook)
History[]
This class of ship had entered service by 2367. In that year, the class prototype Q'Maire under the command of Captain Endar and two escorts of the same class confronted the Federation Galaxy-class starship USS Enterprise-D when Jean-Luc Picard was unwilling to return Cadet Jono, rescued from a Talarian observation craft, to the Talarians because the cadet was Human. Endar negotiated an agreement with Picard, and Jono returned to his adopted father aboard the Q'Maire. (TNG episode: "Suddenly Human")
In 2368, a Q'Maire-class ship, lacking its solar panels, was among the hulks held at Qualor II Surplus Depot Z15. (TNG episode: "Unification")
Later that year, the Enterprise-D was manipulated by the Satarrans into attacking the Lysian Alliance. The Enterprise destroyed a Lysian destroyer of that class, killing its crew of 53. (TNG episode: "Conundrum")
The Kriosians sent a ship of this class to rendezvous with the Enterprise for negotiations with the Valtese. (TNG episode: "The Perfect Mate")
Frunalian science vessels visited Deep Space 9 following the discovery of the Bajoran wormhole in 2369. (DS9 episode & novelization: Emissary)
Soon after, the Valerian transport Sherval-Das docked at DS9 for maintenance. (DS9 episode: "Dramatis Personae")
In 2370, Serova's Hekaran starship was destroyed in the Hekaras Corridor. (TNG episode: "Force of Nature")
In 2372, a Q'Maire-class Boslic freighter docked at DS9. (DS9 episode: "Sons of Mogh")
By 2409, a variety of cultures and private parties employed Q'Maire-class starships as freighters and frigates. Before the Romulan Star Empire had removed[3] the Orion Syndicate presence[4] from the Agrama system, light freighters of this class frequented the rings of Agrama Prime. (STO - Romulan Mystery missions: "Under the Cover of Night", "Sela")
During negotiations between the Sovereign of Acamar III and the Gatherer faction, both sides met in Q'Maire-class Acamarian frigates in orbit. (STO - New Romulus mission: "Acamar System Patrol")
During a trader conference headed by the USS Jamestown in the Nequencia system, some merchant vessels were of this class. (STO - New Romulus mission: "Nequencia Alpha System Patrol")
Following the onset of the Hur'q Invasion and the retreat of Dominion forces, refugees boarded Gamma freighters and traveled through the Bajoran wormhole to DS9. Some of these Gamma freighters were Q'maire-class starships. (STO - Gamma Quadrant mission: "Storm Clouds Gather")
