The Qugh-class was a Klingon starship class, a destroyer vessel in service to various Great Houses of the Klingon Empire in the 2250s decade. (DSC episode: "Battle at the Binary Stars", ST Issue The Official Starships Collection: "DSC01")

Service history

Following roughly a century of relative peace, the Federation encountered Qugh-class destroyers when the Starfleet Walker-class starship USS Shenzhou, and its backup, was attacked by representatives of 26 Klingon Great Houses at the Battle of the Binary Stars on May 11, 2256. The battle had been instigated by the fanatic T'Kuvma to reunite the Empire by rallying its houses against a common foe. (DSC episode: "Battle at the Binary Stars")

In November 2256, a Qugh-class destroyer was part of the ambush on the USS Gagarin. The USS Discovery intervened but was unable to prevent the loss of the Gagarin. Ships of this and other attacking squadrons were equipped with cloaking devices, developed by the House of T'Kuvma and shared by Commander Kol. (DSC episode: "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum")

In 2257, roughly nine months later, a destroyer was part of the fleet poised to attack Earth. The fleet abanoned their target when L'Rell ended the war with the help of Discovery's crew. (DSC episode: "Will You Take My Hand?")

At some point, ships of the class were part of Federation-Klingon engagements involving vessels from different cultures and eras. (ST video game: Adversaries)

Specifications

When the Klingon Empire was in disarray, ships of the Qugh class were fielded by several Great Houses, rather than the Klingon Defense Force. The vessel's design was highly ornamental, with a round golden plate situated behind three forward-facing prongs. A spider-like abdomen formed the rearward compartment. Ships of the class were armed with disruptor arrays. (DSC episode: "Battle at the Binary Stars")

Ships of the class were rated destroyers. During the Federation-Klingon War of 2256-2257, Qugh-class starships were equipped with cloaking devices developed by the House of T'Kuvma. (DSC episode: "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum")
