Quiet was a Nasat neurotype, typically associated with muteness.

History[]

As the Nasat came into conflict with the Citoac that shared their planet, communication was only possible due to the efforts of quiets. Sometime in the 16th or 17th centuries, quiets were able to broker a treaty. Nasat quiets continued to live along the perimeter of their townships until at least the 19th century, to facilitate communication between the two species.

By the 24th century, the Nasat had completely forgotten the Citoac and abandoned this practice. Quiets were not well-understood by the general population, and were commonly considered to be prone to "fits" or even insanity. A physiological marker was identified, which was detectable by a bioelectric ID scanner.

Federation scientists Zoeannah and Tarak set up a neural-electric linguistics project to study quiets. They were successful in helping young quiets learn to speak aloud. In 2376, they estimated that the Nasat population included one quiet in every 750 hatchlings. They had not determined any differences in prevalence by geography or shell color.

The same year, P8 Blue, a graduate of the project, re-established contact with the Citoac and negotiated the Nasat's return to compliance with the ancient Citoac treaty. (SCE eBook: Balance of Nature)
