Quinine water was a carbonated water drink flavored with quinine, a bitter alkaloid. It was originally created as a protection against malaria, for consumption in areas like South Asia and Africa. (TOS novel: Uhura's Song; ST - Destiny novel: Lost Souls) It is also known as tonic water, and commonly mixed with alcohol.

In the 24th century, quinine water was a common beverage. (SCE eBook: Enigma Ship, et al.)

Quinine water was mixed with gin to make gin and tonic. (TNG - Assimilation² comic: "Issue 2")
