The R1 Informant-class was a type of Federation space station/starbase in use in the 23rd century. Informant stations were used by Starfleet Intelligence for surveillance, intelligence gathering, counterintelligence and/or electronic warfare.
Specifications[]
The Informant class was a customized variant of the R1 Invictus-class station built by Chiokis Starship Construction Corporation in partnership with Rantura Shipping Lines in the late 23rd century. The class featured 120 modular segments that could be swapped out to create different configurations for specific mission profiles.
Levels C and A were enhanced with specialized computers and subspace communication equipment. Level 14 featured an uprated security section. A number of domed, long-range sensor arrays were installed on level 15. Level 8 contained a launch bay for various associated surveillance drones that were deployed by the station, such as the Infiltrator drone which could travel at warp two.
The station itself was 200 meters wide, 215 meters tall, and weighed 803,000 metric tons. It could support a staff of 120 and 10 visitors. A hangar bay serviced up to two shuttlecraft. The standard layout included two 6-person transporters, one 22-person emergency transporter and one cargo transporter. Power was provided by a type FMAPG-1 matter/antimatter power generator and a type FIPG-1 impulse generator.
The facility was defended with six FH-4 phaser banks, three FP-2 photon torpedo launchers, and type OSFA deflector shields. A Samson-class warp tender towed each station to its destination. (FASA RPG module: Regula-1 Orbital Station Deckplans)
Service history[]
In 2270, the Orpheus station entered service outside an asteroid field in the Makus system, where it monitored Klingon activity. After confirming that a prototype B'rel-class bird-of-prey was in the system, the USS Enterprise stole the prototype IKS NaS'puchpa' and towed it back to Orpheus. In 2273, Starfleet first detected V'Ger thanks to a surveillance drone launched by an Informant class station. (FASA RPG module: Regula-1 Orbital Station Deckplans, TOS movie, novelization & comic adaptation: The Motion Picture)
Gritchin 1 entered service circa 2274, on reference stardate 2/1811.
By the 2280s, at least 30 Informant bases had been built. Seventeen stations were situated in Starfleet Intelligence sector 3, six in Starfleet Intelligence sector 2, and three along the rimward border of Starfleet Intelligence sector 1. Some were placed in classified locations. (FASA RPG module: Regula-1 Orbital Station Deckplans)
