The R1 Investigator-class was a type of Federation space station/starbase in use in the 23rd and 24th centuries. The most notable facility of this type was Regula I. (FASA RPG module: Regula-1 Orbital Station Deckplans)

History and specifications[]

Specifications[]

An R1 Investigator-class station was 200 meters wide, 215 meters tall, and weighed 850,000 metric tons. The standard layout included one 6-person transporter, two cargo transporters, and up to 8 shuttlecraft. Power was provided by a type FMAPG-1 matter/antimatter power generator and a type FIPG-1 impulse generator. It had no weaponry and only navigational-type deflector shields.

It could support a staff of 150 and up to 20 visitors. It had a cargo capacity of 10,000 metric tons, making it operational without resupply for up to 18 months. The station was 18+ decks high. Labs were installed on levels 13 and 15, with primary research being conducted on level 15. Level 1 contained a park and botany studies lab.

This class was first of the R1 type stations built by Chiokis Starship Construction Corporation in partnership with Rantura Shipping Lines in the late 23rd century. Construction required Starfleet approval, even if a station was intended to be sold for private or civilian use. By the 2280s, 22 such stations had been built, each of which was towed to the destination by a Starfleet warp tender.

Such stations cost at least 17 billion credits to build. For a privately-owned station, the buyer financed most of the construction costs and paid an annual fee for supply ship services. (FASA RPG module: Regula-1 Orbital Station Deckplans)
