The R1 Invictus-class was a type of Federation space station/starbase in use in the 23rd and 24th centuries.
The most notable facilities of this type were Regula I, Starbase 173 and Deep Space 5.
Specifications[]
This was the second type of R1 station built by Chiokis Starship Construction Corporation in partnership with Rantura Shipping Lines in the late 23rd century. It featured 120 modular segments that could be replaced or refitted to create different configurations for additional mission profiles.
In the 23rd century, the class was used as an orbital defense outpost, particularly in the Organian Treaty Zone. It was armed with nine FH-8 phaser banks and two FP-6 photon torpedo launchers. It was protected with type OSFA deflector shields. A subspace communication array was installed on level C, and medical facilities occupied level 4. Security was on level 14.
The Invictus-class was 200 meters wide, 215 meters tall, and weighed 1,103,000 metric tons. It could support a staff of 185 and 20 visitors. The hangar bay could maintain up to four shuttlecraft. The standard layout included two 6-person transporters, one 22-person emergency transporter and two cargo transporters. It had a cargo capacity of 10,000 metric tons. Power was provided by a type FMAPG-1 matter/antimatter power generator and a type FIPG-1 impulse generator.
A Samson-class warp tender towed each station to its destination. By the 2280s, 63 Invictus stations had been built. (FASA RPG module: Regula-1 Orbital Station Deckplans)
Service history[]
The first station, Defense Outpost 6, entered service in the late 2260s, on reference stardate 2/0911.
In the wake of the 2273 V'Ger incident, the Federation Council commissioned three Invictus stations for the defense of the Sol system.
By the end of the 2280s, Defense Outposts 524, 573, and 665 had been destroyed. (FASA RPG module: Regula-1 Orbital Station Deckplans)
Invictus stations such as Deep Space 5 and Starbase 173 were operational in the 24th century. (TNG episodes: "Parallels", "The Measure of a Man").
The legacy of Invictus was evident in the R1-class starbase seen in the 23rd and 24th centuries. (TNG video games: Armada, Armada II)
The 24th century Sigma-class starbase was also based on the Invictus design, seen in facilities such as Starbase 257 and Starbase 375. (DS9 episodes: "Valiant", "A Time to Stand")
