The RMS Carpathia was a 20th century British steamship sailing vessel.

Service history[]

On 15 April 1912, Carpathia responded to distress signals from the sinking RMS Titanic and was able to rescue 705 survivors. (TNG - The Amazing Stories short story: "Life Itself is Reason Enough", historical accounts)

Legacy[]

In 2370, Captain Jean-Luc Picard recalled the HMS Carpathia while recording a log entry about an impending evacuation of the Inuit colony on Nunanavik. He lamented that the 24th century starship Carpathia would arrive too late to help save the inhabitants when their atmosphere froze.
