Service history

The IRW Khnial was a Tal Shiar-operated D'deridex-class battlecruiser warbird. (STO - Tutorial mission: "Flight from Virinat")

Following a series of enhancements with Borg technology the Tal Shiar was experimenting with, the Colonel Hakeev had transformed the IRW Khnial into the prototype of the Khnial-class adapted battlecruiser. The vessel was destroyed in combat with the Romulan Republic in the year 2409. (STO - In Shadows mission: "Mind Game")

In the same year, the Romulan Republic Navy and the alliance that would become the Khitomer Alliance in 2410 acquired the Tal Shiar's Khnial- and Llaihr-class warbird designs and deployed them as tier 5-rated starships. The RRW Khnial was the first Allied ship equipped with the indoctrination nanite dispersal system, a special weapon that could subvert the weapons of a hostile ship. From 2410 onwards, flag officers of the Khitomer Alliance could deploy the Khnial alongside other spacecraft for assignments across the galaxy's quadrants as part of Operation: Delta Rising's four-quadrant strategy. (STO - New Dawn mission: "Admiralty System")
