The RRW Morrigu and its class were an evolution of the 24th century Mogai and 2400s-era Valdore-class heavy warbirds. The similarity enabled RRN personnel to exchange hull components between ships of the three classes. (STO - From the Ashes mission: "Explore the Flotilla")
The Navy developed the Morrigu in cooperation with the Republic's Khitomer Alliance partners to combat the invading Iconian Empire during the Iconian War of 2410. The Alliance aimed to launch a trio of tier 6-rated battlecruisers based on proven designs. The Morrigu was equipped with ablative hazard shielding. From 2410 onwards, the Morrigu represented its class on the shipyards interfaces operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Khitomer Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy. Flag officers of the Alliance could deploy the Morrigu alongside other spacecraft for assignments across the galaxy's quadrants as part of Operation: Delta Rising's four-quadrant strategy. (STO - New Dawn mission: "Admiralty System")
In 2411, the RRW Valdore was refitted to a legendary starship, temporal ops-specialized configuration. This included fitting the vessel with a wing of temporal ops-rated Scorpion-class fighter squadron. The legendary Valdore temporal ops configuration was also applied to ships of the sister classes Morrigu, Mogai and Melponar, including the RRW Morrigu.
