Ratar

A ratar.

The Ra'tar was a large predatory animal, a bird-of-prey that was native to the planet Romulus. (Last Unicorn RPG module: The Way of D'era: The Romulan Star Empire)

It was considered the most denizen of the Romulan homeworld with an emblem of it being made as a bird-of-prey which served as a symbol for the Romulan Star Empire. These predators lived in the Kae'raktar and T'aresh Mountains where they hunt the neighbouring valleys as well as plains for food. Their nests consisted of boulders arranged in a ring-like pattern which hid the eggs from other predators whereupon the centre was layered with grass, branches and twigs. Ra'tar were primarily nocturnal hunters with their own dark crimson feather pattern hiding them from their prey. Most of its waking hours were devoted to hunting and building its energy for continued searches for prey. (Decipher RPG module: Worlds)
