History and specifics[]
In the late 2100s, scientist Charles Rainsford was stranded in uncharted space due to a failed warp engine experiment. Despite this setback, he discovered a new region of space known as the Vaaran Expanse. Upon his return, Federation authorities dismissed his findings as fraudulent, ruining his reputation. Although Charles never returned to the area he discovered, it remained known as Rainsford. (ST video game: Fleet Command, Rainsford system lore)
