Raktajino was not commonly known of in the Federation prior to the 2260s. (DS9 episode: "Trials and Tribble-ations") By the 2330s, it was more familiar to Federation citizens, but not particularly popular at the time. (ST - The Lost Era novel: Well of Souls)
Raktajino became popular with the personnel of Deep Space 9, including Benjamin Sisko, Kira Nerys, Jadzia Dax and Julian Bashir. (DS9 episodes: "Dax", "Duet", "The Homecoming", "Nor the Battle to the Strong")
Captain Declan Keogh of the USS Odyssey, in response to Commander Sisko's request for raktajino, opined that it tasted "like drinking an oil slick." His first officer, Commander Joseph Shabalala added, "only without the tangy aftertaste," causing Sisko to burst out laughing. (DS9 - The Brave and the Bold, Book One novella: The Second Artifact)
