Rapier class

The Rapier-class was a class of Federation escort starship in service in the early 25th century. A variant of the Saber-class, the Rapier-class represents a balance between the more traditional design philosophy of the Saber-class, and the more radical-looking Andorian-inspired Ushaan-class. History[]

The Rapier class was designed by staff from the Starfleet Corps of Engineers who served on the older USS da Vinci. It has several structural and functional improvements that the da Vinci's crew tested on Saber-class vessels during the Dominion War. (STO website: Ships of the Line)

In 2403, the first ship of this class, USS Rapier was on its first mission on a routine trip through the Bajoran wormhole to survey several planets in the Gamma Quadrant. At the time, she contained technology that is now standard on Starfleet vessels. The Rapier became disabled inside the wormhole and was trapped there for six years before being rescued by an allied starship in 2409. (STO mission: "Rapier")
