A reality vortex was a type of 25th century spatial anomaly, a time portal connecting different universes. The Khitomer Alliance first encountered a reality vortex in the year 2411 and recognised reality vortices as a threat to the spacetime continuum. (STO - Kings & Queens mission: "Wish Upon A Star")

The Undine referred to this phenomenon leading into fluidic space as dimensional vortex. (STO - Task Force Operation mission: "Royal Flush")

History and specifics[]

A reality vortex opened near the dying Na'kuhl in the 2410s decade. An expedition of the Khitomer Alliance came across it when it disrupted Admiral Kuumaarke's stellar rejuvenation effort in the Na'kuhl system. Forces of the Tholian Assembly, led by Lord Kaskene, attempted to contain the vortex within a lattice based on Tholian web technology. Due miscommunication, battles ensued between the Alliance and Tholian forces at first, and later between the Na'kuhl and the Alliance and Tholian forces. Following a joined effort by Admiral Kuumaarke and Kaskene's successor, Bright Eyes, the reality vortex was closed. The Lukari starship LSS Treluun fell into the vortex and stranded in an unidentified parallel universe. (STO - Kings & Queens mission: "Wish Upon A Star")

The Borg Kingdom of the mirror universe used a reality vortex in the outer Sol system to attack Starbase 1 in the primary universe. The Treluun returned alongside the Aetherian starship Harmony and assisted the Alliance fleet defending the starbase against mirror Borg. Leader Thaseen-Fei of the Harmony revealed in a summit between the Aetherian Concordium and the Khitomer Alliance at Deep Space 9 that the Borg Kingdom used reality vortices to invade other realities, including the Aetherians' world. (STO - Kings & Queens mission: "Taken By Surprise")

At the Reality Summit, the Alliance and Concordium layd out their plan for an attack on a Borg Kingdom holding in fluidic space. The destruction of the unimatrix closed the reality vortex between the Borg's universe and fluidic space. (STO - Kings & Queens mission: "Scorpion's Abyss")
