The Redeemers were a civilization that were fanatical religious followers of their deity, Xant.
History and specifics[]
The average Redeemer has no name, only a designation of position within the Redeemer hierarchy. An overlord rules the Redeemers, and a prime one is his second in command. They choose a planet for "redemption" and forcibly convert the populace to their faith. Opposition is overcome either through their large battle fleet of starships or the engineered virus in the blood of their high priests. Ever since their deity Xant departed the Redeemers a century ago, the Redeemers have endeavored to bring about his return by living in the opposite way that his teachings dictated in order to attempt to attract him back to show them once again the true light. The Overlord decreed that the appearance of the Great Bird of the Galaxy in the year 2373 is the first signal as to Xant's return. (NF - Prometheans novel: Martyr)
One of the few who joined their faith willingly are the Dogs of War. (NF novel: The Quiet Place)
They were a rather short people, but the overlord is taller than most. They utilized 'words of power' that are very ancient words which can cause pain or even death. An effective countermeasure to these words is to route the universal translators through a ship's computer to edit out any unwanted words. (NF novel: Dark Allies)
Ships[]
The average Redeemer battleship was quite a bit larger than a Federation Ambassador-class starship, however, some smaller Redeemer vessels were encountered by the USS Excalibur in 2376. (NF novels: Martyr, The Quiet Place)
The ships of the Redeemers are pyramid shaped. (NF comic: "Double Time")
The Redeemer virus[]
The Redeemer virus contained in the body of all their high priests was a deadly virus which was released by the violent death of the priest. The virus was designed to eliminate the population and self-destructs within twenty four hours. The Alphans were one of many victims of this virus. (NF novel: Martyr)
