Renewal scroll

Morn burns a renewal scroll.

The renewal scroll is an intricate part of the Bajoran Gratitude Festival. An individual writes their worries on the scroll and burns it, symbolically representing their problems disappearing. (DS9 episode: "Fascination", ST references: Federation Travel Guide, Celebrations)

In the early 24th century, renewal scrolls were purchased. In areas where people were poor, like Korto City, some people with low incomes would pool their money and buy a large renewal scroll. A religious figure, such as a prylar, would write the people's problems on the large scroll before burning it. Kubus Oak, from the better off Qui'al, found the practice distasteful. (TLE - Terok Nor novel: Day of the Vipers)

In 2318, Jas Holza burned a scroll with "isolation" written on it, due to the fact Bajor would soon make official first contact with the Cardassians a few days from then. (TLE - Terok Nor novel: Day of the Vipers)

In 2369, Shakaar Edon claimed he had been writing on his renewal scrolls for years for the Cardassians to leave Bajor. In 2369, both he and Kira Nerys planned to write renewal scrolls during the Cardassian Union's withdrawal from Bajor. (TLE - Terok Nor novel: Dawn of the Eagles)

In 2371, Kira, leading the Gratitude Festival celebrations on Deep Space 9, burned a renewal scroll. Morn was among those who burned scrolls and Quark was selling pens to write on them with. (DS9 episode: "Fascination")
