A republic was a form of government whose head of state was elected by the people to serve as their representative. The executive and the people were governed by an ordered constitution.

History[]

In the mirror universe, Spock sought to seize control the Terran Empire and establish a "constitutionally ordered, representative republic" in its place, following his contact with Captain James T. Kirk from the primary universe in the 23rd century. Spock eventually succeeded in creating the Terran Republic, but it was soon brought down by an invasion by the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance. Known republics[]

Various interstellar states were organized as republics.

The Bajoran Republic was a theodemocratic republic. The Board of Ministers coexisted politically with the Vedek Assembly. The Board was led by the First Minister of the Third Republic of Bajor. This led to a government secular in some regards and heavily influenced by spirituality in others. Erkat was the prime minister of Bajor during the Occupation of Bajor by the Cardassian Union.

The Kaelon Republic was the nation of the Kaelon civilization and based on Kaelon II. It was organized as a protectionist republic, which meant that the state was run by a promoting council. The promoting council ensured the paramount importance of the peoples' stability. The Kaelon promoting council enforced social and political laws and advocated protectionist policies. The Kaelon Republic was headed by a first minister.

The Kesprytt Republic was a split republic, divided between the Kes and Prytt nation-states. The generations-long separation of the Kesprytt species caused paranoia, xenophobia and a lack of intergovernmental communication. Authority was oligarchic. The Prime Minister of the Kesprytt Republic was elected every 20 years.

The Malcorian Republic was a type of democratic, parliamentary republic that elected a chancellor every 10 years. The chancellor was supported by a group of ministers. The executive was organised into ministries by the unified government, which included the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Science and Central Security.

The Pelian Republic was the nation of the Pelian civilization and based on Peliar Zel. It was organized as a gubernatorial republic, which meant that governors were appointed as head of state in such a society. These governors were given executive decision-making powers.

The Talarian Republic was a patriarchal republic run by the Prime Minister of the Talarian Republic. This oligarchic society elected the prime minister every 20 years. Talarian society were rigid followers of traditions, militaristic and strictly patriarchal. In this republic, all high-ranking men were encouraged to adopt a warrior-like behavior to represent their andocratic government. (ST video game: Infinite)
