Background[]

In Star Trek: Conquest, the research facility was required to advance technology trees and construct special weapons. Players could place one per star system, unless there was a mining colony in the orbital slot. Each of these space stations could be fortified with up to 4 defense turrets. The Sol system mining colony generated at the beginning of gameplay was a "hero" variation that could build resources as well as advance research.
