rho Ophiuchi is a B class blue star with an associated system of at least one planet within the rho Ophiuchi nebula. It is a member of the Scorpius-Centaurus Association star cluster in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrant, and is visible from Earth in the Ophiuchus constellation.
History and specifics[]
The star was described as providing cold light on Rampart.
In the 2160s, the system was explored by settlers in a colony ship from Earth.
In 2356, the USS Huxley explored the system and was destroyed while in orbit of Rampart.
In 2366, the USS Enterprise-D investigated the system using data from the recorder marker from Huxley. (TNG novel: Gulliver's Fugitives)
By 2380, rho Ophiuchi and its associated star cluster had only been fractionally surveyed. (TTN novel: Orion's Hounds)
- The real-world rho Ophiuchi consists of three B class stars surrounding a binary star.
